Trading for Development
Design Schools

tfd launched "Translate" in 2008 at the international fair trade meeting Cairo.  The project, a collaboration between tfd and the University of Brighton, provides all fair trade producers around the world with a free, annual, colour and trends guide.  The tool has been described as invaluable by producers and helps them to determine what will be fashionable in the coming season.

tfd runs an annual sixth form "Design a fair trade bag" project at Oxford and Cherwell Valley College.  The finalists are taken to the head quarters of Top Shop where they must pitch and present their ideas to a Buyer.

tfd and senior lecturer in Textiles at the University of Brighton facilitated 10 knitting and colour trends workshops to 10 producer groups in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile.

Trading for Development works with student designers, teaching them about the benefits of fairtrade and helping instill ethical principles in the designers of the future.
